Note from Pottsdam: Before you read this, I have to make it clear that you *SHOULD NOT DELETE FILES IN YOUR SYSTEM FOLDER* unless you know what you're doing, and you're sure you are deleting a malware file. It's recommended that you first try the popular antivirus and spyware/malware programs out there if possible. You may be fucking things up even more otherwise. Thanks to Madox (madox.ca) for the following info. He was using Windows XP Pro and Internet Explorer. "I went to the site in GameQuoter's user info and it gave me a black page that kept loading and loading. I noticed that while this was going on, my drive was going nuts which raised an eyebrow. A few moments after that, I started getting what seemed like Windows popups about being infected. I have my doubts that it was windows though, and it may have been the malware, since I dont run virus detection software. Intead, I lock my firewall and system down, I thought, pretty hard. I immediately pulled the powercord and rebooted but after the windows login screen, the kernel crashed and the machine just rebooted again. I had to use safe mode and remove at least a dozen files added to system32 and a windows service running as 'Windows Time Server' that reinstalled the system32 files. It also disabled Task Manager, screwed up my desktop settings and disabled the whole Display Properities control." --- "Oh correction - after login, the kernel didnt crash. I got a popup saying that dllhost (or something similar) crashed and that the machine would reboot in 60 seconds and there was no way to abort." --- "There is another correction though, the service it uses is called Microsoft Time Server (timeSRV.exe). Searching the web shows that a number of viruses all use that filename so I dont know which one I got. The key file in the system32 seems to be one containing the name 'vxgame6' which is a malware installer. http://research.sunbelt-software.com/threat_display.cfm?name=Trojan.vxgame&threatid=39597 I dont know what files it might install for others but it gave me xpupdate.exe timesrv.exe thematrixhasyou.exe ipod.raw.exe"
